Khajuraho, a small town located in the Bundelkhand province of Madhya Pradesh state of India, is famous all over the world for its ancient and artistic temples. Most of the monuments of Khajuraho were built by the Chandela dynasty between 885 and 1050 AD and present a beautiful display of relationships, spiritual teachings and meditation through stunning art. The temples are divided into three distinct groups – the Eastern, Western and Southern Khajuraho Monuments Groups. These remaining groups of temples represent the quality and originality of Nagara style architecture.
Historical records show that the Khajuraho temple site contained 85 temples by the 12th century, spread over 20 square kilometers. Only about 25 of these temples remain, spread over six square kilometers.
Apart from these temples in Khajuraho, there are many such places located nearby which describe the different history of Bundelkhand along with philosophy. The culture and civilization of ancient India can still be seen in the villages here and the forests, mountains, lakes and wildlife located here add to its beauty.
