According to legends, a mythological King Putraka created Panna by magic for his queen Patali and hence it got the ancient name of Pataligrama. The city was named Pataliputra to honor the firstborn to the queen. Gram means village and Putra means son in Sanskrit.
Panna is a town only 45 KM far from Khajuraho holds a lot of significance. Panna was a Gond settlement in 13th century and was made the capital of Bundelkhand by Raja Chhatrasal Bundela. This small city and has only diamond reserve in the country as well as famous for its ancient and beautiful temples. For this reason it is also called ‘City of Temples’.
Maharaja Chhatrasal (May 4th, 1649 – Dec. 20th, 1731 AD) was an early modern Indian warrior king from the Bundela Rajput clan who fought against the tyrannical Mughal Empire for 60 years of his life and established his own kingdom called Bundelkhand and its capital to Panna. He was blessed, guided, and inspired by his spiritual master Mahamati Prannath and played a critical leadership role in promoting the spread of Nijanand (Parnami) philosophy in many regions of India, Bhutan, and Nepal.
Mahamati Prannath Ji blessed him and said that “Chhatta tere raaj mein, dhak dhak dharti hoye, Jit jit ghoda pag dhare, tit tit heera hoye” its means that everywhere in the world their land is silent mode but in your Buldelkhand the land beat as a heart does and will rejoice because of its glory and wherever your horse will go the land will give the Diamonds to its’ people and that is why Panna in only the land which has only diamonds reserve in India.
